Opinions from promoters

Filipa Pereira - Tradidanças Festival (São Pedro do Sul, Portugal)

Groovin' CAT received a warm welcome at Tradidanças 2025! The participation of this Catalan music group greatly enriched the festival’s cultural program, with vibrant concerts and dance workshops. The audience had the opportunity to learn a repertoire of Catalan and European dances, and their dance concerts took us on a journey full of great music. We should highlight the kindness and enthusiasm of the group members, which made their performances even more captivating. Much success and long life to Groovin' CAT!

Jana Wittenzellner - Museum Europäischer Kulturen (Berlin)

Groovin' CAT’s concert in the garden of the Museum of European Cultures, National Museums in Berlin (8/21/25), was a great success, with approximately 700 visitors. The atmosphere was fantastic — the wonderful energy of “Groovin' CAT” was contagious. Maria’s dance workshop, held before the concert, even encouraged German visitors to try sardanes and other Catalan dances. Participation was enthusiastic and helped create a festive environment where everyone could enjoy Catalan music and dance. A fantastic night!

Maria Sillero - “Divendres Rei” series, Folk at Plaça del Rei (Barcelona)

Groovin' CAT’s concert at Plaça del Rei delivered an energetic performance of great musical quality, coinciding with the neighborhood’s Festa Major and enriching the celebration.

Laura Torres - “L'Ateneu a la fresca” series (Sant Cugat del Vallès)

Groovin' CAT’s concert at the Ateneu Santcugatenc filled the courtyard with energy and a great vibe, getting everyone dancing to their infectious rhythm. Their blend of traditional folk music and experimental touches made for a vibrant night full of connection.

ALBUM

Biela

Groovin' CAT

A part of a mechanism or machine consisting of a rigid bar with a bearing at each end, which transmits the movement from one component to another and often transforms reciprocating motion into circular motion or vice versa.

Biela is born from the “groove” of the textile factories of Central Catalonia, where the sound of thousands of synchronized looms creates a repetitive, hypnotic sonority. When choosing the musical bases from which the glitches were generated, we researched songs from the territory recorded by great masters.

the project

Clarinetist Sonia Antón, keyboardist-technologist Enric Mieza, and accordionist-technologist Ramon Navarro meet at the crossroads of music and traditional dance, fusing the sound of traditional music and contemporary music — hip-hop and trad-electronic — in a musical trio: Groovin’ CAT.

Inspired by Groove Factory, a French group led by Stéphane Milleret, Cyrille Brotto, and Mika Fontanella, they explore the fusion of Catalan dances and sonorities in order to generate “glitches” — small cuts of 1 or 2 seconds, distributed randomly or not — to create a rhythm, a “groove,” that accompanies the music like one more instrument.

Starting from tradition and always respecting danceability as the immutable axis of the show, the trio composes and arranges the songs from the generated glitches. In this way, they achieve their own language with a unique fusion of accordion, clarinet, analog synthesizer, and contemporary music, always putting dance in the foreground.

“Made for dancing, built for enjoyment”
